Question: Are you fully insured?
Answer: Yes, we hold public liability, employers liability, contract works and plant insurance to protect your project.
Question: What areas do you cover?
Answer: We cover all of Berkshire and most of Hampshire and Oxfordshire. Much of our work takes place in Reading and Newbury. We are happy to discuss projects outside of these areas.
Question: How do I get a quote for my project?
Answer: The best way to get a quote is to contact us via email (info@kj-building.org) or phone (07480667782) and we can discuss your requirements. All our quotes are free and no-obligation.
Question: Do you offer project management from start to finish?
Answer: Yes, this is the way we prefer to work. We will handle everything from the first shovel in the ground to the last brush of paint. You will not have to worry about dealing with different sub-contractors or arranging material deliveries. We offer a true end-to-end service with one point of contact.
Services Questions
Question: Do you undertake new build construction projects?
Answer: Yes, we can provide a full end-to-end service taking your project from construction drawings to the final product.
Question: How long will by project take to complete?
Answer: It really depends on the type of project. Some simple extensions can be completed in six weeks others may take several months. New builds can vary on scale and complexity and therefore project duration is not fixed. However, during the quoting process we will provide a projected timeframe for the work.
Question: Do you provide design advice or only construction services?
Answer: We do not typically take on the role of designer. However, we recommend getting us involved in the design process with your architect as soon as possible as we may be able to identify value engineering opportunities or comment on aspects of the design. Additionally, we have good relationships with several architects and structural engineers who we would be happy to put you in contact with.
Question: Can you handle planning permission and building regulations?
Answer: We do not get involved with planning permission. With building regulations while it is typically your responsibility to notify them of commencement and completion we will handle their site visits and keep you update as work progresses.
Quotes and Payment Questions
Question: Do you offer fixed-price quotes or time and materials contracts?
Answer: We offer many different types of arrangements to suit our customers. Contact us to discuss your requirements and what type of contract would suit you best.
Question: What payment schedule do you require?
Answer: On smaller projects we will typically ask for payment at the end of the work. On larger projects such as extensions we will provide a payment schedule based on tangible milestones during construction. These will be included in the contract so all parties have full clarity on the requirements.
Question: Are there any hidden fees I should be aware of?
Answer: We work very hard to ensure the price you are quoted is the price you will pay. There are some fees such as building control and planning fees that fall outside of our responsibility and are not included.
Project Questions
Question: Who will be working on my project?
Answer: Our team of construction professionals will be working on your project from start to finish. We maintain most of the core trades in house and handle any subcontractors so you keep one point of contact.
Question: How do you minimise disruption during the work?
Answer: Allowing you to be comfortable and secure while we are working is a priority for KJ Building. We will protect your property during construction and discuss how best to minimise disruption.
Question: Do you clean up after the project is completed?
Answer: Yes, we always thoroughly clear out and clean the site before handing it back to you.
Question: Can you work around my schedule?

Question: Do you install flat roofs?
Answer: Yes, we install all types of flat roofs and can provide a fixed price for these projects.
Question: What type of flat roof do you install?
Answer: We can install EPDM, PVC, Fiberglass or felt flat roofs. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages which we will discuss with you prior to providing a quote.
Question: Can you install a roof window for me?
Answer: Yes, we can install a roof window into your new or existing pitched roof ensuring it is watertight and attractive.
Kitchen questions
Question: Do you have accounts with the major trade only kitchen suppliers?
Answer: Yes, we have accounts with Howdens, Benchmarx and Wickes. We would be happy to arrange a consultation with any of these suppliers who can help plan and supply your kitchen.
Question: Do you install IKEA kitchens?
Answer: Yes, we do. Contact us to arrange a quote today.
Question: Do you only install your kitchens to “dry fit”?
Answer: No, unlike many major in-house kitchen suppliers we offer a full end-to-end kitchen fitting service. We will arrange all plastering, electrical and plumbing aspects of the project so you can reset assured everything is taken care of. We have the majority of the trades in-house but can also use trusted sub-contractors based in Reading, Newbury or the wider Berkshire area if required.
